Whether music is fast or slow, loud or soft, haunting or uplifting, music makes our world a richer place. Some people dance to it, some write, play or sing it, and others just listen. Music’s power is that it touches everyone in different ways. Whether it’s in the car, at home, or in a concert hall, listening with your children and then talking about music is a great way to engage both of you in the classical experience. After you hear a piece, try to hum one or more of the themes, or pick out the instruments you hear. You’ll be surprised how fast your children will build a repertoire of pieces you both know and like when you listen together.

There has been an interesting report conducted by The Times Online author to find out if music could make an athlete faster. First he would attend a training day to experience the benefits of the right music at the right time, then he would run Sony Ericsson’s Run to the Beat music half-marathon, with the doctor creating the optimal playlist. Music is played in nearly all department stores and super markets. Even whilst walking in the streets, we find cars blaring with music. Past research published in The Journal of Music Therapy (The Effect of Background Music on Behavior in Alzheimer’s Patients, December 1st 2007) focused on improvement of healthy cognitive and social skills, or reduction of agitation symptoms, in Alzheimer’s Patients who were played stimulative background music during which time no other structured activity was taking place. The researchers observed twenty eight participants both with and without stimulative, familiar background music. Results showed both a significant increase in positive social behaviours and a significant decrease in negative behaviours when background music was played.

You’ll be surprised how fast your children will build a repertoire of pieces you both know and like when you listen together. Music, like language, changes through the centuries. But music is life. A Bach invention, a Brahms symphony, and a Beatles song are different forms in different genres, and at first they may sound as if they have nothing in common. But they all use the same musical “language” and follow basically the same rules. Music exhibited no significant influence on the mental. The psychological perception of effort was not altered with or without the music stimulus, although subjects felt they performed better with the music.

A study was conducted at Tzu-Chi General Hospital in Taiwan showing scientific evidences. With sixty people aged 60 to 83 that all suffered sleeping difficulties, study lasted three weeks and researchers reported a 35% improvement in length of sleep, sleep quality, sleep disturbances, and daytime dysfunction in those subjects who listened to soft, slow piano music at night. Piano versions of popular “oldies,” New Age, harp, classical and slow jazz proved to be the most effective types of music used in the study.

British male singer Robbie Williams has confirmed that his proposal to his girlfriend, Ayda Field was nothing more than a practical joke. His publicist confirmed that the star is not engaged to the actress.

The confusion around the event meant that even Robbie Williams own mother thought that the proposal was legitimate.
Adding to the confusion, Williams’ mother Jan later told British radio that the 35-year-old star intended to marry Field “in the not-too-distant future.”

Williams posted a short message on his official blog which read: “Hey all. We are not engaged. rob x”.

But the singer’s mother Jan later told BBC’s Radio 5 Live show: “I’m very excited. I’m really pleased. They’ve been together for nearly three years, so it’s about time.”

Field was in the studio with Williams, 35, for the “Kyle and Jackie O” show on Australian radio station 2DayFM in Sydney to promote his new album “Reality Killed the Video Star.”

Robbie Williams is one of Europe’s most successful singers and he came to fame as a member of UK boyband Take That. He has since gone onto have a very successful solo career. He now lives in LA in the USA where he has undergone rehab for drink and drugs problems. His new tour looks set to get him back on the right track.

A child’s first piano recital is an important one because it establishes a performance history they will look back on - unless they’re too young to remember it! So why wait until your child is an adolescent to give them piano lessons when they will be much more concerned about their peers, and feel uncomfortable playing with students who have had years of experience. Look at your young child and imagine them as a fearful adolescent at their very first piano recital, wondering why their parents hadn’t given them piano lessons years ago? Now image that you didn’t wait to be there! And enroll your children in piano lessons when they’re young.

If you did wait until your child is an adolescent to give them piano lessons, explain to them that they will need to accept the fact that other students in piano lessons with them will have been taking lessons for a long time. Explain also that you and their piano teacher cannot insulate them from this fact. Their piano teacher will not be able to create an environment where they will always be with students of their own age and limited experience.

The fact that your child is a fourteen year old beginner cannot be changed. But over time as your older beginner in piano lessons becomes fifteen , and then sixteen, and then seventeen they’ll see how much progress they can make, and won’t feel like a beginner any longer. Then as a parent you can use this experience to teach your older child other valuable life skills, such as investing for their future in a timely way. On their eighteenth birthday celebrate by taking them to visit a financial advisor to start a retirement account so they can plan to own their first home, or purchase their first new car.
